Myrtus communis (scientific name) is an evergreen broad-leaved shrub of the genus Myrtus in the family Myrtaceae, native to the Mediterranean. It is allso called myrtle. The tree is 2 to 3 meters tall. The branches grow densely. The name comes from its plum-like flowers, which are pure white with numerous long stamens. The genus name "Myrtus" is from the Latin "Murteus," and the species name "communis" means "common.
