What is Isotoma fluviatilis
Isotoma fluviatilis (scientific name: Isotoma fluviatilis), native to Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, is a creeping perennial herb in the genus Isotoma of the family Cyperaceae. The herb is 10 to 20 cm tall and spreads 50 to 100 cm horizontally. The leaves are dark green, 0.4 to 1.2 cm long and 0.2 to 0.8 cm wide, ovate, with leaf margins that are entire or serrate and alternate on the branches. The flowering season is from April to June and from September to November. The inflorescence is a tubular inflorescence, 1 cm in diameter, blue, purple or white in color, with five lobes at the tip. The flowers are followed by a capsule fruit. It can be propagated by spilling seeds, dividing the plant, or taking cuttings. Pollination is by insects such as butterflies and bees. Uses: Ground cover and flowerbed edging. It is poisonous because it is a member of the Isotoma genus.
