What is Narcissus odorus
7Y-Y (Group 7, Yellow Petals – Yellow Corona)
Narcissus odorus (scientific name: Narcissus x odorus) is a hybrid species of daffodil, originating from the fragrant Narcissus jonquilla, wild daffodil Narcissus pseudonarcissus, and possibly Narcissus hispanicus, with origins tracing back to the 17th century. It is also known by several other names, including Narcissus odorus, Narcissus Odore (variant spelling), Odorus, Odrus, Campernelli Jonquilla, Campernelli daffodil, Single Campernelle, Camperenelli, Rugulosu, N.calathinus Linnaeus, and Interjectus.
The basal leaves are bright green, slightly taller than the flowers, upright, with smooth margins, and linear/strap-like with a semi-circular fold inward, measuring 0.5-1cm in width. In spring, the flowers bloom at the top of the stem, with yellow petals and yellow corona (7Y-Y), measuring 3-6 cm in diameter, and typically 1-4 flowers per stem. Propagation is done by dividing the bulbs. All parts of the plant are toxic, containing lycorine and other alkaloids, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea if ingested. The leaves resemble chives or garlic, so caution is needed.
