What is Sakhalin Spruce
Picea glehnii or Sakhalin Spruce(scientific name: Picea glehnii) is an evergreen coniferous tree of the family Pinaceae, genus Picea, native to Japan, the Korean Peninsula, China, and Siberia. It is a member of the spruce family, although its name includes the word "pine. It is distributed in the mountains of Hokkaido and Iwate Prefecture. It grows extremely slowly and is used for soundboards of musical instruments and ships because it is dense and resistant to distortion. The young branches are covered with reddish-brown hairs and the bark is red after it peels off, giving the tree an overall reddish appearance. The leaves are short, rhombic in cross section, and the tips are not pointed. Essential oil is extracted from the leaves.
