Blue salvia, commonly called Salvia farinacea ( scientific name:Salvia farinacea) is native to North America and is a annual or perennialplant of the family Lamiaceae. Although it is originally perennial, in Japan's hot and humid climate, it is treated as an annual by gardening. Leaves are egg shaped and attached to the root. From summer to autumn, it adds a lot of bluish violet and white lip-type florets to the spike-like inflorescence of about 15 to 30 cm from the shoot apex or the axilis. Blue purple flowers are also called 'Blue salvia' and white flowers are also called 'White salvia'. The garden cultivar "Fairy Queen" in this picture is Fluoro Select (European Seed Floral New Varieties Review Association) 2008 Grant Award-winning varieties, flower color is gentle lilac color. The flower language of Salvia as a whole is "yours forever", however purple varieties are "respect". Lavender is very similar to Salvia and it is difficult to distinguish.
