The wing color of the Morpho butterfly, considered one of the three most beautiful butterflies in the world and native to South America, is not a pigment color that is inherently present. Instead, it is a structural color that appears due to light hitting the nano-structures on the wing surface and being reflected. The light interferes between the layers of the wing to create this color. In the left photo, you can see a Morpho butterfly. In the center, the result of using the electromagnetic analysis software KeyFDTD to model and analyze the Morpho butterfly’s wings is shown, with the colors displayed by frequency. On the right is the Pansy Morpho, a variety of pansy.

Pansy Morpho (Viola × wittrockiana "Morpho")
Pansy Morpho is one of the horticultural varieties of the hardy annual pansy (Viola × wittrockiana), originally from Northern Europe. This pansy variety reflects the beautiful wing colors of the Morpho butterfly in its flowers. The flower, bred by Sakata Seed Corporation, features a mix of blue-violet and pale yellow, inspired by the butterfly's wings. It was recognized as an excellent variety in 2002 by Fleuroselect (FS) and in 2003 by All-America Selections (AAS).
