What is Allium Giganteum
Allium sphaerocephalum , Drumstick Allium, Round-headed Leek, Round-headed Garlik, Ball-headed Onion, (scientific name: Allium sphaerocephalum) is a bulbous plant native to northern Africa, western Asia, and Iran, belonging to the family Amaryllidaceae, the family Allium. It is a small-flowered variety of Allium. The plant grows to 50-60 cm in height and produces spherical flowers 1-6 cm in diameter in July in diffuse inflorescences. The flowers are green in color at first, but gradually turn reddish purple from the top of the head, and bloom from the top down, giving it its Japanese name, which is derived from the red-crowned crane. It grows naturally in sunny, well-drained soil. At the flower shop, it looked rather complicatedly bent, but originally it seems to grow straight. There is an underground bulb about 3 cm in diameter. The species name "sphaerocephalum" means "spherical head" in Latin.
