Asarum nipponicum

Asarum, kan-aoi, or wild ginger (scientific name: Asarum spp.) is native to East Asia in Japan, and is a perennial plant in the Aristolochiaceae. It grows in the dark place under the tree and growth is surprisingly slow. It is said that about 100 kinds of asarums exist in East Asia, and half in Japan.

Speaking of asarum in Japan, it is an endemic species of Asarum nipponicum (Kanto kan-aoi), which is native to the eastern Kanto region.
