Carex morrowii or Kan-suge (scientific name: Carex morrowii) is an evergreen perennial grass native to Japan. It grows wild under forests in mountainous areas in Honshu (Fukushima and westwards) to Kyushu. In spring, it produces numerous flower stalks from among its leaves, with a single male ear at the tip and several yellowish-brown female ears below it. The name comes from the fact that it has dense leaves even in winter.
