What is Gold and Silver Chrysanthemum,

Gold and silver chrysanthemum or Isogiku, scientific name:Chrysanthemum pacificum, is a perennial plant in the Asteraceae family, native to Japan, belonging to the genus Chrysanthemum. It grows in clusters on rocky Pacific coastlines, such as those found on the Izu and Boso Peninsulas. In autumn, if you go fishing in the Izu Peninsula, you might see these flowers along the way to the fishing spots. They feature small yellow flowers and leaves with distinctive white edges. The plant grows to a height of about 30-40 cm. Long hairs on the undersides of the leaves extend around the edges, giving the appearance of a white border.

From October to November, flower clusters emerge from the tips of the flower stalks, displaying small, spherical, 1.5 cm-wide yellow flowers made up of tubular florets. While the color is different, the shape of these flowers resembles that of Ageratum (Ageratum houstonianum). Cultivated varieties are grown in various regions, often used in garden beds, potted plants, floral displays such as chrysanthemum dolls, and pressed flower materials.

Origin of the Flower Name
The Japanese name "Isogiku" derives from its habit of blooming near the coast ("iso" means "shore" in Japanese).
The genus name "Chrysanthemum" is a combination of the Latin words "chrysos" (gold) and "anthemon" (flower), reflecting the flower's golden hue.
The species name "pacificum" means "of the Pacific," referring to its natural habitat.
