What is Citrus depressa

Citrus depressa or shiikwaasa (Scientific Name: Citrus depressa) is an evergreen shrub of the genus Citrus in the family Rutaceae, native to the Himalayan region of northeastern India. It is also known as Hirami lemon. In Japan, it is found in the Ryukyu Islands, including Okinawa.

The tree grows to about 5 meters tall and produces white flowers, approximately 3 cm in diameter, in April. By mid-August, it bears small, slightly flattened fruits about 4 cm in diameter. The fruit skin and flesh start green but turn yellow as they ripen. The fruits are harvested while they are green, and their juice is squeezed to be used as a seasoning in cooking or processed into juice and ice cream. Due to their strong acidity, the fruits are not eaten raw.
