What is Ise-nadeshiko

Ise-nadeshiko (Dianthus x isensis) is a horticultural variety of nadeshiko (pinks). It is a classical horticultural plant developed during the Edo period in the Ise region by Eiji Tsugumatsu (1803–1866), a samurai of the Kishu Domain, through the hybridization of Dianthus chinensis (commonly known as sekichiku or China pink) and Dianthus superbus (commonly known as kawara-nadeshiko or fringed pink).
Its characteristic features are the finely split petals that droop downward.
