What is Dossinia marmorata
Dossinia marmorata (scientific name: Dossinia marmorata), endemic to Borneo, is a perennial herb in the genus Dossinia of the orchid family. This single flower is a hypersexual species of one genus, Dossinia. It is considered a representative species of the Jewel Orchid, an orchid whose leaves shine like jewels when the spotlight shines on them. It is found in the northern part of equatorial Borneo up to 400 meters above sea level, in the shade of tropical rainforests, in cracks and crevices in limestone rocks with fallen leaves and moss. The grass is 10 cm to 20 cm tall. The thick, glossy, velvety, elliptic leaves, 5 cm to 7 cm in length, are reddish purple with gold and silver marbling and green veins. It is originally a favorite as an ornamental plant, but in September, it produces long, gross inflorescences with skin-colored flowers about 1.5 cm in diameter. After the flowers, a spindle-shaped capsule is produced.
