Gladiolus carneus or Painted lady Gladiolus (scientific name: Gladiolus carneus) is a perennial herb native to South Africa and belongs to the iris family Iridaceae. It is a spring blooming seed. It extends the flower stems and produces large pink flowers. The petals have dark reddish-red spots on them. There is little to no scent. The genus name 'Gladiolus' is derived from the Latin 'gladium' leaf shape, which means 'sword'. The species name 'carneus' is also Latin for 'flesh-coloured', from the flower colour.
