What is Hylotelephium spectabile
Hylotelephium spectabile, Hylotelephium spectabile, commonly known as Oh-benkeisou (in Japanese) , Bigleaf Stonecrop, is a perennial plant native to China and the Korean Peninsula and belongs to the Crassulaceae family and the genus Hylotelephium. It was introduced to Japan in the mid-Meiji period. The plant features thick underground rhizomes that spread horizontally. It grows upright with a height of 30-80 cm and a width of 30-100 cm.
The leaves are thick, elliptic, about 5 cm long, with low serrations along the edges, and are arranged oppositely or in whorls of three. From August to October, the plant produces umbel-like inflorescences of about 15 cm in length, bearing pale pink or white flowers with five petals and noticeable stamens longer than the petals. After flowering, it produces capsular fruit.
