What is Isachne globosa
Isachne globosa or chogo-zasa (scientific name: Isachne globosa) is a perennial herb in the family Poaceae and the genus Isachne, native to Japan, China, and Southeast Asia. It grows in clusters along watersides and roadsides throughout Japan from Hokkaido to Okinawa. The grass is 30-50 cm tall, with rhizomes growing horizontally, from which thin, stiff, sturdy stems emerge erect and branch out at the top. From June to August, a conical inflorescence extends from the tip of the flower stalk and produces a small spikelet. The small ears are light green to purple, 0.2 cm long, and consist of two small flowers. The flower column is reddish-purple and sticks out from the awn. The post-flowering fruit is 0.1 cm long, ovoid, and shiny dark gray.
