What is Nymphoides indica
Nymphoides indica, water snowflake or Gagabuta (scientific name: Nymphoides indica) is a floating perennial waterweed in the family Menyanthaceae and genus Nymphoidesa, native to Japan, Taiwan, China and other parts of Asia, America, Africa, and Australia in the temperate zone. It grows in clumps in shallow areas (less than 1.7 m deep) of lakes and ponds west of Honshu, Japan. The grass is 5-30 cm tall. The roots are established in the shallow water bottom, and the stems grow to produce petiolated floating leaves with buds, roots, and flowers a little below the petioles. The leaves are heart-shaped, 8-20 cm in diameter, with a glossy green surface and a purplish underside. It produces small white, rosette-shaped flowers with five lobes at the tip from May to September. The perianth is finely lobed and looks like white hairs. The central base of the flower is yellow.
