What is Robiquetia cerina
Robiquetia cerina (scientific name: Robiquetia cerina), endemic to the Philippines, is a tropical subshrub (epiphytic orchid) in the genus Robiquetia of the orchid family. In its native habitat, it grows on tree trunks at medium to high elevations above 350 meters. The height of the tree is 25-100 cm. The thick stem produces about 10 alternate leaves on each side. The leaves are thick-walled, 20 cm long and 3-4 cm wide, elliptic, with a longitudinal depression in the center. In spring, a 6-10 cm long inflorescence of small red flowers hangs down in clusters from the leaf axils on the stem. It is also called 'Pineapple Orchid' because the flowers resemble pineapples. The genus name "Robiquetia" is a dedication to the French scientist Jean Pierre Robiquet (1780 - 1840), and the species name "cerina" means "como de cera" (wax-like) in Latin. The yellow flower color is "Robiquetia compressa".
