What is Roza 'Pierre de Ronsard
Rose 'Pierre de Ronsard' (scientific name: Roza 'Pierre de Ronsard') is a small shrub in the rose family. Its parents are Danse des Sylphes × Handel and Kalinka Climbing, and it was created by Jacques Mouchotte (Mayen, France) in 1988.
The flowers are large, with a creamy outer edge and an elegant pink inner side. They start as cup-shaped blooms and, as they open, turn into quartered rosette blooms. The flowers open from the outside in, transitioning from white to light pink to a deeper pink at the center of the petals. This variety is resistant to pests and diseases, making it easy to grow.
'Pierre de Ronsard' Growing on My Balcony
I have been growing 'Pierre de Ronsard' on my balcony for three years. When I bought it, it came with just one bloom. In the second year, it had 30 blooms, and this year (as of May 1, 2024), it had about 50 buds, and some have started blooming. In total, 60 blooms have appeared. After the first blooming period ended, many new red shoots emerged, and seven flowers are currently blooming for the second time this year. It's a large, beautiful, and abundant rose that is resistant to pests. I highly recommend it.
Origin of the Name
The name 'Pierre de Ronsard' is derived from the 16th-century French poet Pierre de Ronsard, known for his works such as "Sonnets for Helen."
