What is Skimmia rubella

Skimmia rubella (scientific name: Skimmia japonica cv. rubella) is a horticultural variety bred in the Netherlands from “Miyamashikimi,” a cold-resistant evergreen shrub native to Japan and belonging to the genus Skimmia of the Rutaceae family.
The height of the tree is 50-80 cm.
The leaves are thick, leathery, glossy, elliptic, and dark green.
It is dioecious. In autumn and winter, it produces conical inflorescences with many small matchstick-like red buds and small four-petaled white flowers from March to April.
From November to February, it produces red kernels with a single seed inside.
The buds and flowers last a long time, so it is used for cut flowers, garden plants, and potted plants.
The leaves and berries are poisonous and should not be eaten.
