What is Tricyrtis macranthopsis
Tricyrtis macranthopsis or Kii-jorohototogisu (Tricyrtis macranthopsis), endemic to the Kii Peninsula in Mie, Wakayama and Nara prefectures, is a perennial herb in the family Liliaceae and genus Tricyrtis. It grows wild on moist rocks and cliffs in mountain valleys. The stems arch and droop, and from August to October, one or two bright yellow, 5 cm long, bell-shaped flowers bloom in the leaf axils. The petals are thick and shiny with reddish-purple spots on the inside. Endangered species II (VU)
This species is similar to the Tricyrtis macrantha (scientific name: Tricyrtis macrantha) and was initially thought to be the same species, but is now considered a separate species because it differs in the following respects
