What is Veronica onoei

Veronica onoei or Gunbai-zuru (Scientific name: Veronica onoei) is a creeping, alpine perennial herb endemic to Japan and belonging to the genus Veronica of the family Plantaginaceaee. It grows naturally in sunny gravelly areas in the mountains of Japan (central Honshu; Mt. Asama, Shiga Kogen, and Utsukushi-ga-hara). Its name is derived from its fruits, which are in the shape of a military rank, and from the fact that the vine is a tendril. The species name "onoei" is a dedication to Dr. Motoyoshi Ono, a Japanese botanist and translator.
