What is Nectarines
Nectarine , shaved peach, fuzzless peach, (scientific name: Amygdalus persica var. Nectarina) , is a deciduous middle to tall tree from the family Rosaceae, native to China and northern Iran. It is cultivated to harvest fruits. The skin has no hair and is smooth. The pulp is sour. In Japan, it is mainly produced in Nagano Prefecture. Although it is cold resistant, its weakness is that it is vulnerable to rain. Since the flowering is in April and the harvest is after the rainy season, cultivation is difficult. A popular variety is “May Grand”.
