Broussonetia kazinoki or kozo , scientific name: Broussonetia × kazinoki , is a deciduous broad-leaved shrub in the genus Broussonetia of the family Moraceae, native to China. It is used to make Japanese paper.
It is believed to be a hybrid between Broussonetia papyrifera and Broussonetia kazinoki, which belong to the same genus. It grows wild in the mountains from Honshu to Okinawa.
The bark is brown. The leaves are ovate with serrated edges and grow alternately on the branches. The leaves are green in color and turn yellow in autumn. It is dioecious, with leaves and flowers produced at the same time.
