What is Shuzenji kanzakura
Shuzenji kanzakura (scientific name: Cerasus × kanzakura "Rubescens") is a species of small deciduous cherry tree in the family Rosaceae. It is said to be a hybrid between Cerasus campanulata and Oshima cherry (Cerasus speciosa). The upright trunk grows to a height of 9 to 10 meters, and it produces single, medium-sized flowers (3 cm in diameter) that are reddish-purple to pink in late March. The calyx tube is bell-shaped. The leaves open after flowering, so the flowers fill the entire branch. It can be planted in gardens or potted.
*Features
The flowers are relatively large, broadly ovate, and stand out because of their dark color. The name comes from the fact that the original tree is located in the precincts of Shuzenji Temple in Izu-Shuzenji.
