What is Iris ensata 'Miyoshino'

The Japanese Iris 'Miyoshino' (scientific name: Iris ensata 'Miyoshino') is a cultivar of the perennial Iris ensata from the Iridaceae family. This variety of Iris ensata var. ensata is known as Hanashobu in Japanese.

'Miyoshino' is an Ise-type, medium-sized flower that blooms early (mid-May to late May) with soft pink petals and white streaks, forming a drooping flower with three standards. The halo is pink, and the edges of the petals are wavy. This variety, blooming in a rare soft pink for Japanese Iris, became popular in the Showa era for its gentle drooping flower shape. It has a tall stature with dark green leaves, complementing the flowers well, and is robust, blooming continuously.
