Iceland Poppy (scientific name: Papaver nudicaule) is a cold- and heat-tolerant perennial (horticulturally, fall-sown annual) in the poppy family, Poppyaceae, native to Siberia and Europe. It is also known as Siberian poppy, poppy, cocklebur, and arctic poppy. The plant is 25-40 cm tall and has unbranched stems. The leaves are hairy and appear white-green. The leaves are pinnate compound, 3-15 cm long, and the lobes are ovate with serrated edges.

Flower stalks grow from March to May with hairy buds at the tips. The four-petaled, cup-shaped flowers are 6 to 10 cm in diameter and have pastel colors of white, yellow, peach, red, and orange. There are numerous stamens. The pistils and stamens in the center of the flower are bright yellow. The two sepals fall off when the flower opens. The fruit after flowering is a spherical or cylindrical capsule. It is used for potted plants, garden plants, and cut flowers. Unfortunately, the entire plant is poisonous.
It is the earliest of the poppies to flower and is popular for its wide variety of flower colors. The wild variety is white or single yellow, but there are also red, orange, peach, light yellow, and double-flowered varieties in the garden. It also lasts for a long time as a cut flower.
