White-colored Spiraea japonica (scientific name: Spiraea japonica f. albiflora) is a deciduous broad-leaved shrub native to Japan, Korea, China, and Tibet. It is a white-flowered species of the Japanese shimotsuke (scientific name: Spiraea japonica). It is distributed in sunny grasslands in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. The height of the tree is 50 to 150 cm. It has green, elliptic to broadly ovate leaves with serrated edges and alternate leaflets. The flowers have five petals with numerous stamens protruding from the petals. The flowers are followed by a fruit in a pouch. It is used as a garden tree, bonsai, park tree, hedge, and cut flower.
