What is Ezo kugaiso
Ezo kugaiso (scientific name: Veronicastrum sibiricum subsp. yezoense) is a perennial herb native to Japan and Sakhalin in the genus Kugaiso (Veronicastrum sibiricum subsp. yezoense). It grows wild in the lowlands to mountainous areas of Hokkaido in bright forest margins, fields, and wetlands. It grows 150 to 200 cm tall and is larger in size than the kugaiso (Veronicastrum japonicum). The leaves are lanceolate, about 10 cm long, and are arranged in a ring of 5 to 10 leaflets, stacked about 9 high. In July to August, it produces a 20-40 cm long inflorescence with purple, tubular flowers with four lobes at the tip.
