January Red Flowers
Red flowers that bloom in January when it is still cold include (1) camellias, (2) greenhouse flowers at botanical gardens, (3) flowers suited to the Japanese climate, and (4) primulas.
(1) Camellia japonica (camellia)
Camellia japonica (scientific name: Camellia japonica) currently in bloom is a "winter-blooming variety. The camellia blooms from September to October (early blooming), November to February (winter blooming), March to April (spring blooming), and May (very late blooming). For details, please see the list of camellia varieties.
(2) Greenhouse Flowers
Since the time of year when foreign plants bloom in nature in Japan is limited, they can be seen year-round in the greenhouses of botanical gardens, which can provide the same artificial environment as where they originated.
Some of these flowers have leaves and bracts that look beautiful like flower petals, rather than petals, so to speak. Some have been bred to produce four-season varieties, and some have controlled the timing of shipments so that they are available on an anniversary.
Examples include Grevillea, Ixora, and Begonia (Senpa). Calla (Zantedeschina) and Anthurium (Anthurium) have bracts that look like flowers instead of blossoms, so they bloom for a long time.
(3)Flowers suited to the Japanese climate
Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum), which has been improved and can be seen in nature for many years.
(4)Primulas
Primula is a variety of primula that has been bred in foreign countries.
